Hillcrest Water Project Update

Project Update 5-22-2020

Stockpile Update

The remaining stockpile on the south side of the site will be utilized for backfill to fill in around the tanks and the new pump station. We plan to relocate it to the back of the site by the end of spring to minimize impact to the neighbors until the dirt is used.

Happy Canyon Road Cleaning

We continue to sweep the street on Happy Canyon Road three times a week. We will sweep on additional days as needed.

East Gate Entrance

We will be creating a new access gate on the far northwest corner off Happy Canyon Road to allow for better visibility and safety while entering and exiting the site. Work should begin in mid-June and continue for approximately three weeks. The sidewalk and bike lane on the east side of Happy Canyon Road will be closed during construction. In addition, the northbound lane of traffic will be closed during construction hours. Signage will be posted, and we will have traffic control to direct road and pedestrian traffic.
Information will also be posted on the Nextdoor social media site and on the Denver Water Hillcrest website page at denverwater.org/project-updates/hillcrest-storage-tank-replacement.

Road Repairs

There are a few potholes in the center turn lane of Happy Canyon Road due to the amount of large truck activity at the site. We plan on making repairs to these in late June.

Fencing & Landscaping

Installation for the new fence along Happy Canyon Road began this week.
The blue fence covers have been placed back on the temporary fence to help keep the dust down. The blue coverings will be placed on the new fence as well, until all backfill is done and landscaping is restored.

Fumes & Dust

With the onset of spring and warmer weather as well as heavy machinery in the area, there has been an increase in dust at the site. We understand that this is affecting the neighbors and have allocated a full-time crew member and water truck to spray the area in an effort to keep dust down.
Also, some of you have noticed strong diesel fumes recently. We have pinpointed the trucks believed to be causing the excess fumes and have removed them from the site.

Work Hours

The Hillcrest site and construction activities will be closed for Memorial Day weekend, May 23 through May 25.
We are continuing to work on Saturdays through the summer, with personnel arriving at 7 a.m. and equipment use beginning at 8 a.m. We do not anticipate working any Sundays for the foreseeable future.
Weekday working hours remain from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
We appreciate your continued patience and understanding while we work to upgrade this important part of your water distribution system.
